Risk Assessment

Progeny Clinical includes validated risk assessment models to calculate 5-year and lifetime cancer risk, as well as gene mutation probabilities for any member of the pedigree. Located on the web, users now have the ability to run the Bayes Mendel, Tyrer-Cuzick, Gail, Claus, and Premm Risk Assessment Models.

View Video: Run Risk Models

To run the Risk Models, start by clicking the Show Risk button on the Pedigree Toolbar to open the risk models pane:

Next, select the individual in the pedigree for whom you would like to calculate risk. Risk can be calculated on the proband or any of the proband’s relatives in the pedigree, and the resulting report can be saved to that individual’s record.

Risk Pane

  • Calculate – calculates the chosen risk model(s) and/or criteria.
  • The Cogwheel is used to configure which risk models the user would like to run, set the risk threshold, and display data inputs.
  • Save Report/Delete Report – Save/Delete the risk report which can be downloaded and/or printed as a PDF. If saved, gives a date and time stamp of when the report was saved.
  • Selection of previously saved risk reports
  • PDF button opens currently selected risk report

Configuration

  • Criteria – Configures whether criteria is ran or not.
  • Risk Assessment Models – The available risk models include BRCAPro, MMRPro, PancPro, MelaPro, Tyrer-Cuzick, Premm, Gail, and Claus.
  • Use Competing Mortality for Tyrer-Cuzick – For Tyrer-Cuzick only. Takes into consideration external factors into this Risk model, e.g. injuries, sicknesses, accidents, and other non-cancer risks.
  • Include data inputs in report – All data inputs in which are used to calculate the risk models are included in the PDF risk report.
  • Edit Lifetime Age – Configures the lifetime age for each risk model. Each models defaults to it’s applicable default lifetime age, unless modified.
  • Risk Threshold – specifies what risk calculation percent will be highlighted in red once that threshold is reached.
  • Do not show this dialog again – specifies that the only way to reach the risk settings is by clicking the cog wheel.

Risk Assessment Results

Meets Criteria – shows whether individual meets criteria for testing and/or referral.

Validation Errors – shows if you have missing data or if the criteria for the model to run were not met. Displayed in red on the Cancer Risk and/or Mutation Probabilities (Ex: missing age at breast cancer).

Cancer Risk – 5 years and Lifetime Risk.

Mutation Probabilities – All mutation probabilities are displayed here.

Risk Assessment Report

The PDF Risk Report includes all output, including the criteria, cancer risk, and mutation probabilities. It includes the Lifetime Ages used for each model, and indicates which version of each model was ran.

The PDF Risk Report can be said using the ‘Save Report’ button in which it’ll save it to the individual within Progeny or you can print or save the report to your computer.
